DISCLAIMER: All clients with existing medical conditions or diagnoses are required to work with a licensed medical professional to oversee their care. Heather Cooan and the Soil to Soul Nutrition team provide wellness and nutrition guidance that supports general health and well-being but does not treat or manage any medical diagnosis. Our services are not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Please consult a qualified healthcare provider regarding any medical condition or treatment plan.
A cancer or autoimmune diagnosis can be overwhelming, but you have more influence over your health than you might realize. Research increasingly shows that diet and lifestyle can play a role in managing chronic conditions. It’s about creating a healthy internal environment that supports your body's natural systems and overall well-being.
By changing your diet, lifestyle, environment, and self-care, you can make living with chronic illness more manageable.
We can help you use your health history, lab results, and genetic information to create a personalized plan that supports your body. Together, we'll identify underlying contributors to your condition and enhance the effectiveness of your wellness journey!
How Do I Know Which Diet is Right For Me?
Each body is a unique combination lock of factors regarding nutritional requirements, and they can change over time as the body and circumstances change. This is why there is so much confusion about which diet is correct and why every diet seems to have a cult following. Every diet is the proper diet...for some bodies.
We will work together to use YOUR data to zero in on the optimal diet for YOU based on YOUR unique situation and bio-individual nutritional needs. We are here to recommend, support, and educate—every step of improved nutrition is a step toward more vibrant health, and it's not just about food.

Service FAQs
Yes! We are an exclusively virtual practice and have clients worldwide. We communicate via direct message through my online portal, and all sessions are video conference calls through Zoom.
Lab kits are shipped to your address and conducted in the privacy of your own home. Kits include pre-paid mailers that can be dropped off at your local UPS or FedEx location. Depending on the lab, turnaround times for lab work vary from 1 to 5 weeks.
Women are our focus simply due to the volume of Lichen Sclerosus cases we get. However, we will work with men as well. We have many male clients on the oncology side of Soil to Soul Nutrition. We currently only work with children within the context of cancer.
There is no strict age range. We will work with babies, toddlers, kids, or teens.
Unfortunately, we can’t work with anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. We use a lot of botanicals, and most of these haven’t been tested for safety while pregnant or breastfeeding. You are welcome to return when you have weaned your child.
We work with people experiencing all types of cancer. We work with clients to improve their overall health and well-being, which applies to any cancer at any stage, including cancer avoidance, recurrence avoidance, and cancer treatment recovery.
We work with cancer thrivers at all stages, before, during, and after treatment. All recommendations are customized to account for the stage of your journey and evolve with you as you move through your journey.
Yes. Nutrition is not cancer treatment—we wish it were! However, we require that all clients with medical diagnoses be under the care of a licensed physician to manage their diagnosis. Our work together will support overall health and well-being alongside your care team.
No. Heather Cooan and the Soil to Soul Nutrition team do not provide cancer treatment consultations. They are not licensed medical professionals. All services focus on supporting individuals interested in improving their health through holistic changes in nutrition, lifestyle, environment, and psychology—not on treating specific conditions directly.
No. While you are certainly welcome to discuss the possibility of weening off your medication with your doctor, Heather Cooan and the Soil to Soul Nutrition Team are not legally authorized to advise you to stop taking prescription medications. More importantly, discontinuing medicines without the approval of a licensed medical professional can be detrimental to your health.
We like talking to potential clients first to ensure we are a good fit for each other. We also want to hear your story and listen to what symptoms you have been experiencing. This way, we can better assess which package and tests might be best for you. Please apply to work with us by booking an intro consultation, and we will discuss further details.

We currently do not accept insurance, but we partner with TrueMed for letters of medical necessity, which you can use to access HAS/FSA funds.
Insurance typically covers blood chemistry if you can get your doctor to order it. Functional lab assessments are often considered alternative medicine and are not covered under insurance. You may get partial or complete coverage if your insurance pays for out-of-network labs. Few labs will submit to insurance, but most labs will provide you with a receipt, which you can turn in to your insurance company to see if they will cover the cost. Under many circumstances, you can use HSA (health savings accounts) to cover expenses, but we recommend checking first to make sure. Fees and lab fees are usually tax-deductible if you itemize health care costs. Check with your tax specialist to be sure.
We mail all functional lab kits directly to your home. If your doctor is willing to order, you may choose to go through your doctor for any blood chemistry covered under insurance.
Our self-treatment protocols are individualized for every client. We use your health history, lifestyle, symptoms, functional lab tests, conventional blood work, and genetic data to help guide us in providing you with health-building strategies and drug-free, all-natural protocols.
As long as it takes to get you feeling better. Everyone is so different and heals at different rates. It often depends on what you have going on. More complex situations can take a lot longer to heal. We work with clients for 6-12 months on average, but that may be different for you.
In a sense, the healing process is like steering a massive ocean liner. While correcting your course by one or two degrees may not seem to alter your position, three months later, you find yourself in friendly, uncharted waters! This process is a work-in = work-out scenario. The more dedicated you are to your health and doing the work, the more positive outcomes you are likely to see.
Results are highly individual and may depend on 1) the length of time you’ve been experiencing chronic stress and 2) to what degree the underlying stress has been present.
We cannot guarantee results; however, reasonable expectations exist that symptoms will resolve or partially resolve as you begin to untangle the web of root cause contributors to your disease process and optimize your terrain.
Disclaimer for Cancer Patients
Heather Cooan and the Soil to Soul Nutrition team do not provide cancer treatment consultations. They are not licensed medical professionals. All services focus on supporting individuals interested in improving their health through holistic changes in nutrition, lifestyle, environment, and psychology—not on treating specific conditions directly.
For those seeking guidance on non-standard-of-care options, we can refer you to a Metabolic Approach to Cancer practitioner trained by Dr. Nasha Winters, ND, FABNO, who can provide specialized support.
Heather's protocol for her personal health journey is available here; however, supplement doses are not shared, as they were tailored to her specific case. Copying others’ protocols or attempting to create a self-guided plan is discouraged, as it sometimes leads to unintended harm. The best approach for addressing a cancer diagnosis, in our opinion, is to research thoroughly and build a diverse team of both conventional and alternative practitioners to address the mind, body, heart, and soul.
