Rebecca Put Lichen Sclerosus and Ankylosing Spondylitis Into Remission

Published: Aug 8, 2022 · Modified: Sep 27, 2022 by Heather Cooan, MBA, NTP, FDN-P, ONC · This post may contain affiliate links.

Rebecca came to me to put Lichen Sclerosus and Ankylosing Spondylitis into remission. She had been dealing with AS for 15 years. Once a thriving corporate attorney, she had lost her career and her independence to the debilitating disease. After her divorce, Rebecca decided it was time to focus on herself and we got to work investigating her root-cause contributors.

Rebecca put lichen sclerosus and ankylosing spondylitis into remission.

    Rebecca's Main Complaint

Ankylosing spondylitis was Rebecca's chief complaint. AS is an inflammatory disease that, over time, can cause some of the bones in the spine (vertebrae) to fuse. This fusing makes the spine less flexible and can result in a hunched posture. If ribs are affected, it can be difficult to breathe deeply. There is no cure for ankylosing spondylitis, but treatments can lessen symptoms and possibly slow progression of the disease.

Lichen Sclerosus was the least of Rebecca's concerns given that she was dealing with chronic debilitating pain due to the AS. But, as you can imagine, having an itchy vulva on top of chronic pain was really an awful state of being. Rebecca set out to put lichen sclerosus and ankylosing spondylitis into remission.

    Our Approach

Rebecca's case was fairly involved and she had been sick for a very long time. So we started with testing. Test, assess, address...don't guess!

We ran a stool test, mineral and heavy metal profile, food sensitivity test, and hormone panel along with some conventional blood tests from her conventional team.

    Rebecca's Root-Cause Contributors

No wonder Rebecca's immune system had gone bananas and her inflammation was out of control. She was dealing with repeated bouts of SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), an H.pylori infection, two parasites, candida overgrowth, totally pooped out adrenals, low steroid hormones, imbalanced minerals, lots of food sensitivities, leaky gut, insulin resistance, and vitamin D deficiency.

We started by removing the foods flagged as moderate and severe reactivity on Rebecca's food sensitivity test. Cleaned up the diet getting rid of processed foods and adding in lots of good fats, protein, and fresh produce. We addressed all of the gut infections and healed the gut lining and supported Rebecca's adrenals and hormones. Restored vitamin D status and balanced blood sugar.

    Rebecca's Review

I'm so grateful to have found you! I can't believe how far I've come in the last year. I was essentially bed ridden and now I'm getting my life back! I have been able to regain my independence and move out of my dad's house. I'm dating for the first time since my divorce, and getting out in the community.

I was worried about being able to cook for myself and get the proper nutrition, but you made it so easy by guiding me to use the air fryer and instant pot. It's been a lot of work, but so incredibly worth it.
